All Employers are being urged to educate young people about workplace safety. The British Safety Council (BSC) has warned that 100,000 young workers could be at risk with work experience being at its height at this time of year.
The BSC are campaigning to highlight possible dangers with thousands of young people entering unfamiliar environments for the very fist time. Employers, Parents and Teachers are being urged to highlight possible dangers with research showing that a young person is injured in the workplace every 40 minutes.
A BBC spokesperson said, “Talk to your children; make sure they understand the risks that they could face in unfamiliar surroundings. As parents, teachers and employers we need to be socially responsible and educate them. BSC chief, Julie Nerney said, “The BSC’s message is that health and safety is about adopting a sensible attitude. It’s not about being over-protective or stopping young people from doing everyday tasks. Realistically however young people are more vulnerable if they’re just entering the workplace, “she added.
In an attempt to stop young people injuring themselves at work the BSC will be running a “speak up, stay safe” campaign over the summer to educate young workers.
